The Jaobites invaded England
The Jacobite Charles Edward Stuart invaded England with a force of approximately 5000 men who was equipped and supported by France. The Jacobites were a political movement that worked to reinstate the house Stuart and their descendants as kings of England and Scotland.

The invasion culminated later with the Battle of Culloden in 1746 where Charles Edward Stuart chose to fight on a flat and open marsh, where his soldiers were exposed to the English superior firepower. He commanded the troops from a position behind the battle line where he could not see what was happening. In the hope that Lord Cumberland, the British commander, was to attack first, the Jacobites received a devastating Hannoverian artillery fire. When Stuart realized this, he ordered his troops to attack, but the messenger was killed before he could pass the order. When the attack finally got underway it was uncoordinated and the Jacobites were met with murderous musket fire and grape shot from the artillery. Between 1500 and 2000 Jacobites were killed or wounded and the rebellion was crushed. Charles Edward Stuart managed to escape and died in Rome in 1788, 68 year old.
